EXECUTIVE CHEF MATT LEE
Formerly the Executive Chef for the Restaurant at the Getty, Matt Lee has a quiet passion for culinary integrity and innovation. His exquisite eye for detail is evident in everything from his careful flavor composition to the stunning and playful visual presentation of each element on the plate. At 917, his facility with fresh, locally caught fish and other seafood complements his mastery of more traditional steak, chicken, and pork offerings, which he tends to balance with a bright vegetable accompaniment.
Matt began his career at the age of 16 prepping seafood and vegetables at a local dining destination. After high school he attended the California School of Culinary Arts in Pasadena and went straight into fine dining, as Sous Chef at the historic and award-winning Saddle Peak Lodge in Calabasas, CA, where he first fell in love with cooking seasonally and locally. He was also inspired by his grandfather, who opened a restaurant in New York with friends soon after emigrating from China, and who later always tended a bountiful backyard garden in Los Angeles — as Matt also does.
PASTRY CHEF EUNBEE LEE
A 2014 graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, Eunbee Lee honed her craft through the Institute’s Baking and Pastry Arts program. Eunbee served as a pastry cook at Patina Restaurant at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, developing an inventive and artistic array of desserts that complemented the restaurant’s French-American cuisine. Later, Eunbee joined Executive Chef Matt Lee at Restaurant at the Getty in Los Angeles before moving to Restaurant 917.
Eunbee grew up cooking Korean cuisine with her mother, an influence that is apparent in her current work at Porsche. While she is a devotee of classical French techniques, she playfully blends Korean flavors with traditional pastry methods while always focusing on the minute details that bring a dessert from “good” to “exceptional.” Her artistic approach and careful attention to surprising textural and flavor combinations make the dessert course at Restaurant 917 a can’t-miss experience.
